Portland, Oregon’s Lemonship brings us a whole other flavor of instrumental on Captain Möbius. The trio find a spacey and spacious, experimental jazz groove to explore. As the old adage goes, it’s the notes you don’t play, and Lemonship wisely keep the noodling tasty and restrained with a masterful ear for composition and arrangement, allowing each player to both shine and support. It’s heady, yet natural feeling, and is what every late night after hours jam session is striving for.”

Postcard Elba

The experimental trio, Lemonship, has a sound that expands far past their hometown of Portland, Oregon. Adroit to say the least, Lemonship has been leaving their listeners speechless with their unique and fresh take on psychedelic experimental jazz. With each release, this band proves that their ceiling is nowhere within sight, constantly developing their sound and progressing musically. Their upcoming single, “Sleepy Jove”, which is released January 21st, is yet another significant step forward for the trio. This track has an immense amount of cohesiveness and complexity to it which provides the song with an irresistible groove. The melodies of the keyboard and bass joined with the dexterous percussion add emotion to each section of the song, morphing from upbeat and gleaming to a nostalgic, murmuring outro Lemonship’s earlier releases include “BC33/Green Being” (2020) and “Goblins Bazaar/weather, or not” (2021). These are a selection of sublime tracks with incredible balance and technicality between the instruments. These songs create a modern electronic atmosphere while still hinting at the best of the funk, jazz, and rock of the past. This trio is a force erupting with potential, proficiency and distinction which continue to amaze anyone lucky enough to listen, I highly recommend experiencing it for yourself.” - Gavin Miller

World Wide Waves

Sleepy Jove is puff nu-jazz that conjures the serenity around. The tight beat and the floaty, cozy passages of the electric piano lure in all the light idleness of the day and turn you into a master of laid-back dances for a while. At 0:41, the lush keyboards seem to suck you into a relaxing, satisfying process similar to filling a waffle cone with layers of ice cream. And at 1:30, among the light fog of clouds, you can see slowly multiplying, colorful, fantasy views.”

Good morning. Sometimes my brain wants something…spicy. I mean, spicy in musical meaning. Today is one of those days. I just feel that I need to post something special today. Let’s check it 😉 Here is Lemonship — experimental / jazz music trio from Portland, Oregon, and their track “BC33”. You may ask me: “where is the music?”. Well, I will give the answer immediately: “just open your mind and listen”. To be honest, I am not an expert of jazz music (especially experimental jazz). Though I am a professional musician, I barely can find connections in all these rhythms, melodies, and harmonies in this track. BUT! When I caught it, all sounds start interacts and working together. Something in this composition touched my heart and inner vibe. I can’t even recognize what it was. I suppose, this kind of music is not for regular listening. You can’t just get to work and turn on this stuff on background. The listener should percept music in two different planes: vertical (harmony), and horizontal (melody). Usually these two planes are merged (I mean modern pop music). But in this case, hemispheres of the brain should work separately…it’s kinda polyrhythm for the brain if you want. I’d like to hear it live. Long story short — this is pretty interesting and exciting experience. I hope, some of you also caught the vibe and enjoyed this wonderful music. Have a great week <3”
